The alliance between ENRIEL and CASTROL was forged in the 1960s, under the auspices of two key figures: engineer Mr. Enrique Barreiro and navigator and adventurer Mr. José Luis Ugarte, one of the few Spanish sailors who sailed around the world solo on several occasions. United by their passion for the sea and engineering, their collaboration laid the foundations of a professional and human relationship that, over the years, transformed into a solid business project.

In 1976, after years of joint work at Spinks & Co, S.A., Mr. Enrique Barreiro founded ENRIEL in A Coruña, assuming the official distribution of CASTROL in the northwest of Spain, both for the marine and industrial sectors.

Sustained growth and market response led to the opening of a branch in Vigo in 1978, a city that later became the company’s headquarters.

In 1995, ENRIEL was established as a limited company, consolidating its business structure.

Always guided by quality, in 2000 we obtained ISO 9001 certification, after passing the audit by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Limited, thus reaffirming our commitment to excellence. That same year, CASTROL became part of the BP OIL group, further strengthening its international presence.

International expansion materialized in 2013 with the opening of the Oporto (Portugal) branch.

In 2015, after passing the CASTROL audit, ENRIEL joined the Ambassador Castrol Europe project, expanding its network with branches in Asturias and Castilla y León.

Currently, under the direction of the second generation of the Barreiro family, ENRIEL continues its growth as a strategic partner of CASTROL, since 2023 acting as Ambassador Castrol for the Iberian Peninsula in Marine & Energy, thus reaffirming its commitment to the industry and the maritime sector, to which it has been linked since its origins and which remains the heart of our history.
